My Favorite Shorts – Summer 2020

As I’ve gotten older, my sense of style has changed and matured. From Hollister all day, every day to brands more appropriate for this 30-something Mama, my style is constantly evolving. Which is what makes fashion so fun, right?!

So although I wish I could still fit into my duds from high school, I’ve had so much fun discovering new brands and styles that I feel like are appropriate for the stage of life I’m in. But to me, that doesn’t mean “looking like a mom” (whatever that means, anyway). Because even though I am a mom of three, I still love fashion and want to feel good in what I’m wearing. Keeping up with the trends or falling back on the timeless classics.

An easy visual to show how each shorts length compares to one another.

But one challenge I’ve encountered is the age-old debate on shorts. Most of the time they’re up my bee-hind or so low-waisted you know something is going to show. So I took to the shorts market to find ones that are stylish, versatile, yet work for #momlife. The “secrets” to these finds are a high waist and longer, loose bottom, which is incredibly flattering on the thighs. These options are all very high quality, too. Definitely worth the money since they’re made to last!

So, let’s get to the roundup!

L’AGENCE Ryland High Waist Shorts (TTS)

These are the most classic short of the bunch. And also the shortest, although not Daisy Duke short. The high waist is always flattering and I promise these do not ride up anywhere. Simple, versatile, and super soft!

grlfrnd Jourdan in Say It First (TTS)

These are one one of my go-to, every day shorts. Classic, casual wash. High waisted. Loose fit around the thigh, which gives a flattering and slimming look. I also love the frayed hem!

Agolde 90’s Loose Fit Shorts (TTS)

I’ll be honest, my husband made fun of me as I walked down the stairs in these shorts. I know they’re not for everyone but truthfully, I LOVE them. A true throwback to the 90’s (and I remember wearing this style in the early 2000s), this is a fun addition to any wardrobe. High waisted and loose (yet straight) fitting, these shorts are super slimming in the legs.

J.Crew High Rise Denim Shorts (Size up)

These are another classic, just in white! High waisted with a longer leg length for more coverage. What I love about this pair is the cute button fly so that they’re not just another white short!

grlfrnd Jourdan Tomboy Shorts (TTS)

These shorts are so popular, I literally couldn’t find them in stock anywhere online. There are a couple of other washes but the white, no luck. Linked them up anyway in case you want to keep an eye on them, because they’re my fave pair of shorts! Another high waist option, long inseam, and I love the destroyed detail and raw hem.

Levi 501 Mid Thigh Shorts (TTS)

I truly think all of these shorts are very flattering, but for whatever reason these are my favorite option. Maybe it’s the black? High waist? Or that they hit mid thigh? But they’re very slimming and incredibly versatile!

Free People Amelie A-Line Shorts (TTS or size up)

Easily the most fun, unique option! I was drawn to try these shorts because of the A-line fit, something I’ve never tried on in a short. And I LOVE them. The color is beautiful and the flowy bottom was so fun to wear. I say potentially size up because I did get these in my regular size but the waist was juuuust perfect. So if you want/need a little room, size up. I always find Free People denim runs crazy small, so don’t be alarmed!
